I’m always searching or fun ways to spin an old favorite. Who doesn’t love cupcakes??? One of the things that I love about cupcakes is it’s a small portion and they look great in any form, oh and taste great too! I came up with this idea after seeing several “things in a cup” on pinterest. The veggies in a cup and taco dip in a cup are definitely party ideas I’d love to try out! I’ll be sure to post about that if I ever get around to it! Anyway, this is a super easy project that really adds a fun touch to a classic.
So here are the super easy directions:
Simply make cupcakes as directed and place the batter in paper cupcake holds, bake as directed on the box. Once cooled, remove the papers and place the cupcakes in a party beverage cup. I used wine type plastic cups that have a slight slant to them. The cupcakes should fit perfectly in the cups as long as you didn’t overfill the papers. I then made homemade frosting. There are tons of recipes for frosting, you can certainly use canned frosting as well. I think the homemade taste of the frosting really makes them special. Here is my recipe for cream cheese frosting:
1.5 bricks of cream cheese
1 stick of butter unsalted at room temp
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 cup of confectioner’s sugar (you can definitely use less. I usually just add a bit at a time and taste it until it is the right sweetness. I don’t like the frosting too sweet :))
Blend with a mixer until combined.
Next step is easy, I use a disposable piping bag with a disposable tip that I got from Michael’s Craft Store and piped the frosting in a circular pattern. This is a fun activity for kids so if you don’t care if it’s perfect, let’s the kiddos help!
Lastly, sprinkle any colorful topping over frosting and enjoy! I add these cute little cocktail forks you can find at the dollar store at almost any grocery store 🙂 The cupcakes transport easy, look fun and guests can take them home if they’d like!
