I am always looking for ways to make food healthier, and still taste good. My kids loooove ranch dressing, who doesn’t right?? It’s so darn tasty. If you look at the store bought varieties, you will see the ingredient list is a mile long and usually contains things you can’t pronounce. Most of those long words are some sort of preservative or other additive that probably isn’t the best for you. Something like “ranch dressing” seems so complicated make, especially because of the yum factor. I got to thinking about it a bit more and came up with this delicious dip. We are big fans of dipping sauces in our house so replacing the beloved ranch bottle was going to be a tough challenge. I managed to come up with this foolproof recipe that is not only good for you, but also low in fat and calories. Say what????
Healthy Homemade Ranch Dip
1 container of plain organic Greek yogurt (I use the individual one serving cups so I can make small batches at a time)
3-5 tablespoons of organic Cream Cheese
1/2 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice
3 tablespoons of organic feta cheese
2-3 basil leaves chopped
1 garlic clove chopped
1/4 teaspoon sugar
salt and pepper to taste
Mix all the ingredients in a mini food processor until smooth, about 1 minute. Taste the mixture and adjust the flavors to your liking. Add or sugar, lemon or S&P if needed. You can always add spices, you can’t take them away. Serve with pita chips, crackers, raw veggies, I even used it like sour cream on tacos…..yumo!!!
The dip is high in protein because of the yogurt and also low in fat because it doesn’t have mayo or sour cream. Super delicious!!! let me know what you think!
